Rancourt, Susan
Susan Rancourt was 18 when she was murdered by Ted Bundy on or about 17
April 1974. He cracked her skull with a metal bar then kidnapped, raped
and killed her. He then dumped her body in the woods. It is thought that
once again he used his trick of appearing helpless as he had tried this
on two girls earlier that day.
Randolf, Mrs Jenny
Mrs Jenny Randolf was 35 years old when she was murdered by Earle Leonard
Nelson on 30 May 1927 She had been strangled and raped
Rattenbury, Francis Mawson
Francis Rattenbury had been a distinguished architect and was married to
a woman who was 29 years younger than him. They lived in a house in Manor
Road, Bournemouth. Francis Mawson Rattenbury was 67 when he was murdered
by George Stoner on 4 March 1935. He had been struck over the head several
times with a wooden mallet.
Rawlinson, Dorothy
Dorothy Rawlinson was 28 years old when she was murdered by Wendell Willis
Lightbourne on 28 September 1959. Her body was found on a coral reef about
two miles away from where her clothing was discovered It had been badly
eaten by sharks.
Reed, Christine
Christine reed Age 18 Whilst out cycling with a friend Barbara Songhurst
she was murdered by Alfred Charles Whiteway on or about 1 June 1953. She
had been murdered and then raped after which her body was thrown into the
river to be found five days later
Rees, Gwynneth
The driver of a mechanical digger had a bit of a shock while clearing a
rubbish site on the 8 November 1963. Her body was naked apart from one
stocking so it was assumed she had been the victim of a sexual attack but
the police were unable to establish the true cause of death. The body had
been decapitated but the head was found nearby. One strange fact was that
the 22 year old prostitute seemed to have lost rather a lot of teeth for
someone so young. This was to become significant as time went on. The police
had to rely on a fingerprint to establish the identity of the corpse. They
had little difficulty matching the fingerprint since Gwynneth had a substantial
police record and had been convicted eleven times. The body had lain in
a shallow grave for about six months - She was thought to be another of
the (Hammersmith Nudes) but it was never proved for sure.
Regnaul, Marie
Her age is unknown but she was murdered by Pranzini on 17 March 1887 She
had been decapitated.
Reuter, La
La Reuter was 31 years old when she was murdered by Peter Kurten on or
about September1929 She was killed with hammer blows and sexually assaulted
Reynolds, Mrs
Mrs reynolds was 61 years old when she was murdered by her daughter in
the 1980's She killed her with a hammer.
Richardson, Irene
Irene Richardson was the third victim and was killed over a year after
the second. She was a 28 year old prostitute who had turned to streetwalking
in order to earn a living to keep her young children. She was murdered
by Peter Sutcliffe (Yorkshire Ripper) on 5 February 1977 - She was killed
with three massive blows from what was thought to be a (hammer) which had
shattered her skull. Her Body had then been subject to mutilations with
a knife thought to be a stanley knife.
Roberts, Mr
Mr Roberts whose age is unknown was murdered by PC Montgomery and PC Shevlin
in 1987 They had beaten him to death with their truncheons.
Robinson, Joan
Joan Robinson was thought to have been murdered by her husband in March
1969 It was never proved and John hill was shot dead by a hired gunman
so there the case remains
Robinson, Mrs Rose Ada
Mrs Rose Ada Robinson who was 63 was allegedly murdered by Harold Loughans
on 28 November 1943. She was found strangled in her bedroom the next day.
Loughans was tried but found not guilty of the crime but later sold his
confession to the people newspaper.
Rogers, Mrs Edna Ina
Mrs Edna Ina Rogers whose age is unknown was murdered by Bruce Potter in
1946.
Rosenthal, Herman
Herman Rosenthal was the owner of a gambling club in New York. He was murdered
by several men who later fled the scene on 15 July 1912. He was shot outside
of his own business by four men who drove off in a car.
Russell, Mrs George
Mrs George Russell was murdered by Earle Leonard Nelson on 24 June 1926
Her naked body was found She had been strangled and raped
Rytka, Helen
Helen Rytka who was an eighteen year old prostitute who normally worked
with her twin sister. The routine was that one of them would go with a
client while the other waited for them to return. In this way there was
always a witness as to the identity of the client. On the 31 January 1978
Helen was waiting for her sister to return when she was approached by a
client. Breaking her own rules she went off with him. Unfortunately for
her the client was Peter Sutcliffe (yorkshire Ripper) who attacked her
in his normal way and struck her six times on the head with a (hammer).
He then stabbed her at least three times in the chest. He also subjected
the body to other mutilations. Her body was left hidden behind some corrugated
iron in a timber yard. There was one difference that set this victim apart
from the rest, sutcliffe had sex with Helen, probably while she was unconcious.
